Men Who Cook…What’s Better Than That?

Women Today welcomes Chuck Hughes , host of Cooking Channel’s Chuck’s Day Off.

Chuck went to culinary school at Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec after ditching a successful, but unfulfilling, career in advertising. He quickly started working in some of Montreal’s hottest kitchens and hasn’t looked back since. In 2006, Chuck and his two best friends opened their own restaurant set in the heart of Old Montreal, Garde - Manger. The den-like restaurant quickly developed an almost fanatical clientele of locals and tourists alike, and to this day, is as unique as its chef.  The Today Show raved about Chuck’s seafood platter, while local paper Voir called his cuisine “sexy and solid”.

His food philosophy revolves around simple, well-made food and he stresses his passion of buying and cooking local food.  In 2009, Chuck invited the world into his kithen at Garde-Manger with the premier of Chuck’s Day Off. It has now been extended into its third season and airs on the Cooking Channel in the U.S.

Chuck will be providing 2 cooking demonstrations on the Cooking School Stage on Friday and 1 cooking demonstration on Saturday, both to be followed by a meet and greet! See exact times here.

He opened his first restaurant, Sweet Heat, in California. Serving fresh and healthy Mexican-inspired fare, the restaurant was a hit. Jeffrey opened two others before moving on to become partner in charge of operations at Pasta Pomodoro Italian Restaurants, working to open the first dozen of the 40-plus restaurants in the chain.

In 2009, Jeffrey burst onto the national food scene after finishing as runner up in Season 5 of The Next Food Network Star. Following his success on the show, he hosted The Spice Smuggler for FoodNetwork.com. In 2010 with the launch of Cooking Channel, Jeffrey was given his own show United Tastes Of America.
